This online class will provide tips for sketching and painting from life, whether you are outdoors or by your window looking out. Betsy will begin the workshop with a pastel painting demo, sharing pointers for setting up on location and narrowing the field of vision, choosing a composition for a painting, and translating the light on the scene into values. She will then give students several exercises to complete, suitable for both sketching and painting: developing sketching and planning skills, painting masses, simplifying shapes and details. Individual feedback will be given during class. Betsy paints in pastels, but information shared in this Zoom workshop will apply to other drawing and painting mediums as well.
