Description: Drop-in for a Gallery Talk in the American Art & Carousel Gallery, where many of Heritage’s finest works are currently on display. In this program, Curator Amanda Wastrom will introduce participants to four of Massachusetts’ finest 20th century artists: master bird carver Elmer Crowell, marine painter Frank Vining Smith, and mid-century folk artists Martha and Ralph Cahoon. Amanda will present the story of each artist’s life, art, and artistic process. View examples of each artist’s best work, alongside unfinished pieces, sketches, tools, and other objects from their studios—all part of Heritage’s collection. No advance registration required.

Description: Join us at Sturgis Library as we combine tea and art. Artists of all ages and skill levels are invited to gather, sip tea, and sketch. Different blends of tea represent different moods and evoke different feelings. The featured tea during the sketch session will be used as inspiration for the sketch prompt. Basic materials will be provided by the library but participants are welcome to bring their own art supplies if they prefer. Registration is not required. Description: The six Cello Suites are Suites for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach most likely composed them during the period 1717-1723 when he served as Kapellmeister in Kothon, Germany. We will take some menu items from The Brauhaus and Leipziger Eck restaurants in Kothen. Today we will start with Linsensalat lentil salad with smoked salmon and root vegetables, then Senfeir boiled eggs with potatoes, spinach, and weisswurst, schnitzel with poached asparagus caper lemon sauce and finish with Rote Grutze (fruit pudding.) Description: The Art of Decoy Making Workshop, led by Master Woodcarver, painter, and decoy maker, Paul Phillips, demonstrates the traditional folk art of bird carving and painting. Visitors will be able to view our carvers at work in the original woodshop of world-renowned decoy artist Anthony Elmer Crowell, and learn about future opportunities to sign up for decoy making classes at the Barn!

What: Wild About Words: A Workshop for Those Who Love Nature and Writing by Diane Hanna

Description: The Barnstable Land Trust and Cotuit Library are delighted to announce a free workshop led by Cotuit writer and artist Diane Hanna. She is also a Words in the Wild poet whose work can be experienced at Ropes Field. Diane will use engaging prompts to help participants freely express themselves and their appreciation for the natural world. The atmosphere will be curious, playful, and open. Participants should bring a notebook and writing implement. Attendance will be limited to ten so all participants who wish to share their work will have time to do so. This program is part of the Barnstable Land Trust’s “Words in the Wild” program, which posts poetry along BLT trails, and was made possible by grants from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and the Mid-Cape Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
