Nestled in Spain’s northernmost region and lying just below France’s southern border, Basque Country can seem like an enigma for many travelers whose gut reactions are to book flights to Madrid and Barcelona. Yet, with one of the highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world and unparalleled access to the best ingredients in Europe, Basque Country is the place to be if food is the driving force of your travels.

The charm of Bermeo is easy to miss if you don’t park and walk from the old town to the port. Before the town became synonymous with the commercial fishing industry (it once boasted the largest fishing fleet in Spain), it was a booming whaling center.

Tonight we will start with a selection of pinches, Merluza in salsa verde, roast lamb with olives, beans and roasted garlic and we will finish with fresh cheeses. We will taste the acidic whites that match so well with seafood and some red Tempranillo.

This class meets on the main level in the Education Wing.

MATERIALS
Our cooking classes are held in our commercial kitchen. You will be seated at a counter on countertop stools, so please wear comfortable clothing. Layers are best, the temperature fluctuates often.
