Coast Guard Oceanography

Our newest exhibit features Coast Guard oceanography and the Service’s leadership in the earliest years of
this scientific discipline. This includes polar exploration after the 1867 purchase of Alaska and support for the
International Ice Patrol after the 1912 sinking of the Titanic. It also includes displays about “Tools of the Trade” and “Our Historic and Enduring Partnership” with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
