Nancy Pelosi’s forward to Victory for the Vote reminds us “that the trailblazing suffragists did not wait for change, they worked for change!”  And work they did! Women’s history expert Doris Weatherford starts with a detailed history of the women’s suffrage movement–from the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention to the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920. Then she puts the fight for the right to vote into a contemporary context by highlighting the revolutionary women whose activism changed our world in the decades following the passage of the suffrage amendment and discussing key challenges for women since 1920, such as reproductive rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and expanding political power.
