Saddle up.  We’re heading West for some Lone Star history.  It’s 1823. Texas is still part of Mexico. And, this very wild and very violent frontier surely needs tamin’. Enter the Texas Rangers.  Early on, the propertied power structures of Texas used this bold and brutal bunch as enforcers, protectors and officially sanctioned killers.  They fought the fierce Comanches, chased outlaws, and served in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War. As life in the Lone Star state “calmed down” a bit, the Rangers kept the peace in boomtowns, caught cattle-rustlers and patrolled the perilous Texas-Mexico border.  Now remember, everything’s bigger in Texas.  Countless pulp novels and movies have celebrated the Rangers as Wild West supermen. In many cases, they were. Sometimes they weren’t.  Cult of Glory sets the record straight. This twenty-first century reckoning does justice to their heroic moments and put their atrocities, brutality, oppression, and corruption on record.
