Location: Chatham, Tern Island
Audience: Adult
Members: $40.00/ Nonmembers: $50.00

Mass Audubon’s Tern Island is a 28-acre island located just a stone’s throw from the shoreline of Chatham’s mainland. It features extensive tidal flats at low tide and is fast becoming one of the best spots to see migrating shorebirds in the late summer and fall, including short-billed dowitchers, American oystercatchers, and flocks of red knots. In late spring and early summer nesting birds including piping plovers, American oystercatchers, and least terns can be observed. A short boat shuttle over to the island and little walking also make it a great destination! In addition to shorebirds, we may find staging swallows in late summer and fall, as well as egrets and other waders.

We welcome birders of all levels on our birding trips. These trips are designed for those with a specific interest in birds; the naturalist’s goal is to help participants find and observe as many bird species as possible. Directions and meeting time provided upon registration.

Instructions and Directions:
Pre-registration is required; program registrations will not be taken on-site by the program leader.
