Why is the foundation of modern drawing and painting, Hans Hoffman’s theory of push/pull, so engaging and enduring when making art? Students will create drawings, collages, or paintings that respond to this natural law and working from the figure will support you in discovering your authentic visual language. The course begins will a short presentation of Hofmann students Red Grooms, Jan Mueller, Lester Johnson and Tony Vevers. Guided exercises will give you a working knowledge of how lines, shapes, and compositions push and pull on a two-dimensional surface. Compassionate and enlivening critique and discussions about work being made happens throughout the two days.
