The main focus is a rare showing of historical maps of Cape Cod,  on loan from the private collection of Orleans resident David Garner, map collector, historian and lover of everything Cape Cod. (Why maps? More information about David’s passion to follow. We are happy to set up an interview). These maps tell a 500 year history of Cape Cod visually – identifying explorers and their vessels; depicting early settlements; and documenting changes in the coastline. As a parallel, the collection also tells the history of map-making – showing the advances in map-making technology from 1570 (the oldest map in Garner’s collection) to the 1940’s (his most recent map). Joseph Garver, Curator Emeritus, Harvard Map Collection, researched the maps and provided the narrative for each one.
