Hans Hofmann’s theory of pushing and pulling a composition on a two-dimensional surface is best understood when drawing from life with charcoal on paper. Understanding how to move the figure in pictorial space will lead to larger and more complex artwork, paintings, collage work and mixed media.

Mondays begin with critique of the week before. From 10-noon, we will be making work (drawing, painting, collaging) from a long pose. Real-time feedback will happen in an encouraging and supportive environment that is also authentic and challenging. A weekly challenge will be given.

Included in the fee is Virtual Life Drawing on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30 am, where Laura Shabott will be available via text for coaching and feedback. There is also a private Facebook page for additional feedback available for students taking this course. Teaching will be assisted by Alana Barrett.
