This is a 6-week hybrid  in-person and online class. Students may attend all classes in person or take the class using the Zoom platform. The Art Center will email you the link before the online classes meet.

Still life and interiors: Explore qualities of form, color, texture, and composition.

There is so much to learn from exploring still life and interior scenes, and what better time than when we spend more time indoors! We will begin by using traditional still life to review the fundamentals of design. Students will have the opportunity to work from their own still life and or a class still life.  If doing your own please have at least 5 table top items, varying heights and sizes that you want to work from to create a series of thumbnail sketches. We will be using grey toned paper and either black & white charcoal pencils or china wax markers for value and notan studies.

After the initial few lessons, students can choose to continue with a still life set-up or expand to paint interior designs that incorporate a still life in the natural setting within their house, or from photos of interior spaces, stores, restaurants, museums, garden sheds, anything that touches a personal spark with you!

Lessons will promote drawing and perspective, use of value for impact, and color palettes. We look at both traditional and contemporary techniques for your paintings.  You will have options to use various pastel papers & supports for your theme, incorporating multi-media if desired.  Tips from previous sessions will be revisited.

Please register early as class registration closes 48 hours before the start of first class.  Registration must be accompanied by full payment.
