In this class students will create narrative illustrations while learning how to use line and color in an expressive nature. The first half of the course will be focused on improving drawing ability. We will examine drawing from a variety of different perspectives, with the goal of loosening up and learning to use the line with confidence. Emphasis will be placed on students developing their own personal style, rather than a fixed way of drawing. During the second part of class, students will employ their skills to create a narrative work of art of their own invention. They will learn how elements such as color choice, composition, and line quality all contribute to telling a story. Examples of narrative art throughout history will be presented for ideas and inspiration. This class is appropriate for advanced beginners or established artists who want to explore narrative art. Some basic drawing skills are required.
