This 6-week class will take the advanced beginner/intermediate student through good drawing practices and exercises with the goal of establishing a pattern of habit, structure, and design in their work and building confidence in their painting skills.

Drawings completed in the course will provide a road map for laying in a subsequent painting. Class discussions will include how to choose a dynamic subject, establish distinct shapes, and determine strong values. The painting segment of the course will include basic design, color analysis, brush use, and various genres of painting from still life to landscape.

Each class will have a short talk, a demonstration, and time for individual, hands-on work. There will be personal follow-up by the instructor for each student. If students wish to work further on their art at home, they may e-mail a photo their work to the instructor for further advice or critique.

Though this class is primarily focused on oil painting, acrylic painters are welcome to join.
