Date: Thursdays, March 5–April 9
Time: 9:30am–12pm
Location: 6 classes, in the Art Studio
Price: $250/$212 members

For those who want to get over their intimidation around drawing humans, jump in!

This class is designed to make portrait and figure drawing fun and expressive in a supportive environment. We will spend significant time on gesture drawings using quick poses in order to loosen up and get acquainted with various charcoals and erasers. These short studies are also useful for understanding how the body moves and what drawing techniques to use that capture motion and energy.

Longer poses will also be set up to work on proportion, perspective, shading and composition.

Demonstrations on the use of ink and collage will be provided further into the class. Participants who are ready can explore these expressive techniques or continue their practice with drawing the full figure and portrait.

Materials list:

  • 18×24″ drawing pad
  • A wide variety of charcoals including vine, compressed and a charcoal pencil (the more you have to experiment with – the better)
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Chamois

Drawing boards, newsprint and easels are provided.
