For many years Karen T. Butler has been documenting the beauty and ever-changing essence of Nantucket Island with her camera. Her initial affection for the lighthouses at Brant Point, Great Point, and Sankaty Head and for the Nantucket Lightship led her to undertake the research that eventually produced this unique history of Nantucket’s legendary beacons. Originally from Rye, New York, where she grew up, raised her family, and later ran the family business, Karen Butler studied photography at Manhattanville College. With her husband, Tony Cahill, she summers on Nantucket, where she serves on the board of the Nantucket Life Saving Museum and exhibits her photographs with the Artists’ Association. Her winter residence is in Bonita Springs, Florida.
