Drawing on the Collection

A combined gallery/studio course. We start with a one-hour animated conversation in front of a key artwork in the museum’s galleries. Students discuss artist biography, subjects and themes, form and technique, and historical context. This is followed by a 2.5-hour studio session, inspired by (but not copying) the artwork. Two of the five studio sessions are plein-air excursions to sites around Provincetown. Mediums include drawing, painting and collage, reflecting the collection. The art works are chosen carefully, with diversity of artist, media and subject matter in mind.
