Haven’t danced for a while? Looking to move in community with other dancers? Are you interested in learning contemporary/modern dance technique? This class is for you!
This is a contemporary dance technique class from the ground up, approaching movement with compassion wherever you are on your journey. Building strength and control takes time, this class takes this into consideration while also offering opportunities for mindfulness and exploring embodiment. We will be integrating a mixture of contemporary dance release techniques as well as modern dance influences like Cunningham and Limon.
For adult dancers ages 16+, this open contemporary dance class is for folks looking to practice technique with compassion and community. Some prior dance experience is helpful but not required — this is a mixed level class for anyone interested in dance.
Note: No class April 20
Please wear comfortable clothes that are not constricting and you won’t trip over. Layers are a good idea too, so you can have your arms covered for the floor warm-up and be able to remove layers when you get warmer.
This class incorporates many different dance and movement philosophies that have influenced Meghan as a dancer, including: Safety Release Technique, Limon Technique, Cunningham Technique, Nikolais/Lewis Technique, Nancy Stark Smith’s Underscore/Contact Improv, Forsythe Movement technologies (William Forsythe), Gaga Technique (Ohad Naharin), AXIS Dance Company’s physically inclusive dance teaching philosophy, and hatha yoga/meditation.
If you would like to access this class and need particular accommodations or have any questions, please reach out!
