The George Washington Inaugural Bible, that was used during the inauguration of our first president on April 30, 1789, will be the centerpiece for a special presentation in concert with the Masons’ Marine Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Falmouth. Dr. William M. Fowler Jr., Distinguished Professor of History, emeritus, at Northeastern University, will make a presentation about Washington and will then be honored as the first recipient of the Falmouth Historical Society’s new Katharine Lee Bates Historian Award, named for Falmouth’s iconic daughter who wrote “America the Beautiful.” Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Fowler served for seven years as director of the Massachusetts Historical Society and authored “American Crisis: George Washington and the Dangerous Two Years After Yorktown, 1781-1783.”The Inaugural Bible will be on loan to the Falmouth Masonic lodge that weekend from St. John’s Lodge No 1, Ancient York Masons, in New York City.
