    Events HISTORY ON TAP: EARLY NAUTICAL CHARTS OF CAPE COD AND THE NORTHEAST Join Bob Zaremba, owner of Maps of Antiquity in Chatham, for an illustrated journey through the early nautical charts of Cape Cod and the Northeast. Housed in a historic late-1700s Chatham farmhouse, Maps of Antiquity offers over 15,000 antique maps, charts, and prints, spanning early American maps, hand-colored 19th-century state and country maps, historical prints, and more. In this talk, Bob will showcase rare and fascinating charts that guided mariners along Cape Cod and the Northeast, explore their history, and share insights from his decades of expertise in antique maps, restoration, and conservation. Navigate the history of nautical charts of Cape Cod from Samuel de Champlain to our own local chart makers George Eldridge and his son George W. Eldridge, of Chatham. Learn about the development of American chart making from after the revolution to the 20th Century. Built in 1791, the Judah Baker Windmill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is Yarmouth’s last-surviving windmill. Only a half-mile from Route 28, the windmill stands in a small park overlooking the Bass River and facing west toward Nantucket Sound. While you can see the windmill anytime, our dedicated volunteers offer free tours during the season. Accessibility: The park is flat with grass, a brick path, and a composite path (which can be slippery when wet). Inside the windmill, there are steps to the second level. When the windmill is open during the season, there is a portable toilet available (not accessible). See Google map of windmills you can visit on Cape Cod & the Islands. Founded in 1993 and incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in 1995, Cotuit Center for the Arts has an excellent history of producing and presenting innovative, quality works that encourage individual artistic development and exploration. Since opening a new facility in May of 2004, Cotuit Center for the Arts has produced or presented over 50 art exhibitions featuring over 500 visual artists, more than 40 concerts, and 20 full length theatrical productions. Its purpose is to commemorate the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landing in the New World in Provincetown, in November 1620. Here the Pilgrims spent 5 weeks exploring the tip of Cape Cod, before they sailed on to Plymouth. They also drew up and signed the Mayflower Compact, which established the rule of law for the new land. The Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial Association built the Pilgrim Monument to honor the Pilgrims’ first landing in Provincetown. President Theodore Roosevelt laid the cornerstone in 1907. In 1910, President William Howard Taft dedicated the finished 252-foot tower. In 1910, the Cape’s first building built to house a museum opened at the base of the monument, to educate the public about Provincetown’s role in Pilgrim history and American history. Today, Millions of visitors and generations of local residents have admired and climbed the 252 foot granite Pilgrim Monument for almost 100 years.     Events Public Clay Open Studio Ongoing Mondays, 6-9pm. $75 initial session (includes clay), $30 per session thereafter. Come and practice your clay skills! If you have taken at least 3 clay classes here at the Center or are an experienced potter, you are welcome to practice during our Public Open Studio hours. Rates are $75 for your first session and includes 25lbs of clay (glaze and firing incl) and $30 per session thereafter. You may purchase additional clay for $50 per bag from the Center. Bring an apron and wear close-toed shoes.Tools are available, but feel free to bring your own.
