The Revolution on Cape Cod and the Islands The Antecedents, the War, and Its Aftermath
Every town has a story to tell.
Dr. David Martin, Chair of the Cape and Islands Historians Committee will be speak on his illustrated book which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of our country, bringing together events, narratives, and many
little-known stories of the Revolution on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard,
and Nantucket.
Twenty-seven authors researched and tell of the colonies’ battles,
privateering, British shipwrecks, contentious splits between Loyalists
and Patriots, and the service of African Americans and Native
Americans fighting to separate from the tyranny of British rule. From
the end of the French and Indian Wars in 1761 to the Treaty of Paris
in 1783, many individuals on the Cape and Islands played a major role
in changing the “United Colonies” to the “United States of America”.
