Hands-On with Helaine: Wonderful Whales

LENGTH: one 6-hour workshop


LEVEL: all levels, teens welcome with a parent


WHAT TO EXPECT: Create your own personal ocean-inspired keepsake in this fun one-day workshop! Working with artist Helaine Buckley, each student will use paint, ink, paper collage, glue, and natural materials and objects to decorate and embellish a large (2+ feet long) wooden whale wall hanging.

All materials are provided, but feel free to bring any personal embellishments you'd like to incorporate in your creation.


EXTRAS: Each student will go home with a truly unique piece of Cape Cod art.


DON'T FORGET: Dress to make art and bring a brown-bag lunch for the break. This class is held in the Adams Makerspace on the lower level of the Education Wing.

INSTRUCTOR:

Helaine Buckley earned her BFA in Photography from Parsons School of Design. After working for 10 years as a photography gallery director/curator of the Berenice Abbott Estate, she achieved her MAT in Art Education. She taught art in New Jersey for 16 years. In 2003, the Lab School of Washington and The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation selected her as one of the top 30 Art Teachers in the United States. Upon retiring, she moved to Cape Cod and started making Stained Glass. Her creative interests include fiber arts, basket weaving, mixed media printmaking as well as photography and stained glass. Her photography has been exhibited in New York, New Jersey, and China.
