ENEMY OF ALL MANKIND: A True Story of Piracy, Power, and History’s First Global Manhunt

Henry Every was one of the 17th century’s most notorious pirates.  The press published wildly popular—and wildly inaccurate—reports of his nefarious exploits. The British government offered enormous bounties for his capture, alive or (preferably) dead.  Every and his crew pulled off one of the most lucrative crimes in history which triggered the first international manhunt and the trial of the century. But that’s not really their legacy. They also inadvertently triggered a major shift in the global economy.  While this gripping, real-life tale has plenty of “yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum” adventure, it’s also the tale of the emergence of the East India Company, the British Empire, and the modern global marketplace. Somehow the actions of these unlikely pirates and their crime played a key role in the birth of multinational capitalism and changed the course of history forever.
