How a Team of Inventors, Tinkerers, and Spies Took Down a Nazi Superweapon

They were an unlikely wartime team, an eccentric and eclectic band of American physicists, engineers, inventors and everyday Joes and Janes.  They worked in a secretive organization known only as Section T.  Their mission: to build something that would help the Allies knock enemy airplanes out of the air. In a race against time and against overwhelming odds, the members of Section T developed one of the world’s first “smart” weapons. At first glance, it was a humble little fuse.  However, their invention turned out to be not so humble.  If fact, the “proximity fuse” was the sought-after holy grail. The technology would eventually save countless lives, rescue the city of London from the onslaught of a Nazi superweapon and help bring about the Axis defeat. While this is a largely untold and perhaps forgotten tale of wartime technology, back then military leaders knew one thing for sure.  The atomic bomb ended the war, but the proximity fuse won it.
