Clay is a magical material with lots of paths one can take. In this class all levels of students will be accommodated according to their skill level. Through demonstrations and personalized instruction, the class will be tailored to the individual. Beginners will be lead through the basics of throwing a cylinder and bowl on the wheel along with learning about the vocabulary, tools and firing process. Those with more skills will have the flexibility and guidance to work on techniques which will enhance their personal skill set and further their knowledge of the craft. A student who wishes to work independently but within a class setting, can do so and be assured they will have access to the instructor should they need some direction concerning more advanced techniques. The benefit of a multi-level class lies in the energy created when students with varying skills share their experience and enthusiasm. Demonstrations, individualized instruction and plenty of hands on time round out our class. Books, handouts and examples of pottery will be available to reinforce lessons. All tools, materials, and & firings are provided. This class meets in the pottery studio on the lower level of the Education Wing.
