Sarah O’Toole was raised on the Cape, then went on to earn a BS in Biology from UMass Boston. She first began researching horseshoe crabs with Mass Audubon in 2008. She earned an MS in Wildlife & Fisheries Conservation from UMass Amherst, while studying the spatial ecology of horseshoe crabs in Nantucket Sound.
