Provincetown Film Art: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

This elegiac meditation on the price of fame follows the final months of Wild West outlaw Jesse James (Brad Pitt), as he hides out with his gang in Missouri. Casey Affleck steals the show as the tortured wannabe legend Robert Ford. It’s all as darkly beautiful as a film can be, thanks to Roger Deakins’ stunning cinematography.
The Provincetown Film Art Series, now in its 14th year, is sponsored by the Provincetown Film Society (PFS) and Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM), and curated and hosted by Howard Karren, arts editor of the Provincetown Independent. Wednesday screenings are at 7 pm every other week except as noted at the Waters Edge Cinema in Provincetown, 237 Commercial St. (Whaler’s Wharf, 2nd floor), and are introduced and followed by a discussion.
