Artists will explore a wide variety of pastel painting techniques and surfaces while developing technical, creative and emotional components of the painting process. Classes will include focused lessons to develop skills with both traditional and experimental pastel techniques and ways to create underpaintings.

Class will begin with demonstrations or warm-up exercises such as drawing skills, pre-planning for a painting, employing compositional structures, developing routines using values, notans & color studies. We will work with seasonal palette as a way to hone observational skills with landscape and still life. Artists will be encouraged to share, with critiques directed towards understanding and explaining the choices we make as artists. This class is for beginners, refreshers and intermediate students and meets in the Owl Hall on the main level of the Education Wing.
