Papier (paper) Mache, has become increasingly popular among contemporary artists. Why? Because paper is plentiful and working in this medium offers maximum potential for artistic expression. In this class we will cover creating both flat and sculpted artworks, culminating in creating unique Paper Mache attire. Working with Paper Mache is not costly and materials for this class can be found at your home, at the transfer station (recycled magazines or newspaper), the hardware store, or the super market. Participants can purchase the ingredients for making wall paper paste from the hardware store and the finished works can be painted by using whatever paint you have on hand. The instructor will begin with a brief history of Papier Mache. Each session will consist of periodic demonstrations of method and technique. There will be time allotted for participants to work on their creations and share their progress and difficulties. All levels and ages are welcome to join in the fun.
