Who doesn’t like to hit a drum? Playing the steel drum, or “playing pan” as it is known in its native Caribbean, requires no musical experience. Producing a note in a pan is easy, and the reward is immediate! If you can tap your toe, you can play.

In this six-week class, students will learn to play by aural rote, just as it is taught traditionally in panyards across the Caribbean. The primary objective of the class is to make music and HAVE FUN!! With instruction in basic music notation, rhythm, and harmony. Once again get ready to kick off your shoes, feel the proverbial hot sand between your toes, and “jump up”!

This class meets in the Night Owl Recording Studio on the lower level of the Education Wing.
