Introduction to Tile Making

In this class you will explore various techniques for making and decorating tiles by hand and by simple machine. A history of tiles around the world will be used as a backdrop for traditional methods of using repetitive design as well as storytelling. Surface decoration will include glazing, painting in underglazes, sgraffito and other carving techniques. Students will have a chance to try different tile making and decorating techniques and can expect to make a finished multiple tile piece for a wall or table.
