Join us for STEM, smiles, sun, and summer fun! The Hundred Acre School opens its doors to children ages 4 to 8 (preschool to entering grade 2) for fun that helps to combat summer learning loss. This STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) focused program allows children to question like scientists, to use technology as a tool, to be creative engineers, and to think like mathematicians.

Weekly themes provide a focus for play and investigation. Our home base will be the air conditioned classrooms of The Hundred Acre School, but much of our time will be spent outside in daily STEM exploration adventures throughout Heritage Museums & Gardens. Kids will participate in hands-on activities and science experiments, spend time playing in Hidden Hollow, and enjoy acres of nature trails and (of course!) carousel rides!

Week 1: Monday, June 24-Friday, June 28:  Inventors’ Workshop
Inventors are all around us! We will learn about some important inventions and create some of our own. Get ready to tinker, engineer, and create with us all week.

Week 2: Monday, July 1-Wednesday, July 3 only:  Ooey Gooey
Come make a mess with us as we create and explore all sorts of materials that are ooey and gooey. We will also explore an amazing living creature that makes something sticky… can you guess what it is? (Hint: Buzzzzzzzz!)

Week 3: Monday, July 8-Friday, July 12:  Drip, Float, Splash Water Fun
This week we’ll explore the different areas throughout Heritage where water is found, like the Flume Fountain, Hidden Hollow’s new Splash area, or even along the Lake Walk. This might be the only week we would hope for some water to fall from the sky, too! While we won’t be swimming, we’ll find ways to get wet during our many activities and experiences both indoors and out.

Week 4: Monday, July 15-Friday, July 19:  Awesome Blossom
Heritage will be celebrating one of Cape Cod’s most popular flowers during the Hydrangea Festival this week. We will investigate these awesome blossoms and many others while we become botanists, horticulturists, and gardening gurus.

Week 5: Monday, July 22-Friday, July 26:  Sensational Five Senses
Did you know that you use at least one of your five senses every moment of the day – and that they are on duty even when you are asleep? We will explore the importance of sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch during our adventures, including explorations in the new McGraw Family Garden of the Senses.

Week 6: Monday, July 29- Friday, August 2:  Nature Explorers
The magic of nature surrounds us at Heritage, and we are going to explore it all! We will have our binoculars, observation journals, field guides, and STEM tools ready for action!

Week 7: Monday, August 5-Friday, August 9:  Conducting Science Experiments
Back by popular demand, our week of cool science experiments is one not to miss! We will make a hypothesis, gather some data, and share the results – and the fun we had – with family and friends.
