This hand-building class with artist Joan Zagrobelny will teach you how to work with clay using simple traditional techniques. There will be exercises to follow, with ongoing demonstrations, that will give you the tools to use clay imaginatively, building abstract sculptural forms or sculptural-functional objects. This class teaches students how to use clay, not only to make things, but as a form of creative individual expression, based on “following” the clay as you build and seeing where it leads. Demonstrations, clear instructions, and individual attention will be given throughout the class. All levels of experience are welcome. Tools will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own preferred ones if they have them.
Originally trained as a speech pathologist, Joan Zagrobelny has transferred her creative energy into working with clay, studying with numerous renowned ceramic artists. Joan lives and works in Sandwich, MA. She has exhibited her work internationally at CRETA-Rome Gallery in Italy and at galleries in New York and Boston. Her sculptures have appeared frequently in juried shows throughout the U.S.
