Explore and experiment with coils to construct functional and non-functional work. Examine how simple coiling methods can morph and unfold to create larger and more symbiotic forms. As we look to the spiral as inspiration, with its importance as a universal symbol in cultures throughout history, we will utilize coils to build forms as an integral part of the construction. Using demonstrations as well as one on one guidance, we will converse with clay as we analyze the ways in which coils themselves can be part of the larger structure. While thinking of the forms we constructed, we will then apply a variety of slip, surface development and glazing techniques. This isn’t Auntie Anne’s—get ready to roll! All levels welcome, especially newbies.
